AMC Theatres, the largest cinema chain in the world, is taking another step to attract budget-conscious moviegoers with a new midweek promotion. Beginning July 9, 2025, AMC will offer 50% off adult ticket base prices every Wednesday for members of its AMC Stubs loyalty program. This move is aimed at increasing midweek attendance while making moviegoing more accessible for millions of Americans.
Currently, AMC offers Discount Tuesdays, a long-standing tradition that has turned Tuesdays into one of the most well-attended days at theaters. Now, with strong box office momentum, AMC is expanding its discounted offerings to include Wednesdays as well.
“With the introduction by AMC of 50% off Wednesdays, we’re looking to turn Wednesday into a similarly strong-attendance day,” said AMC CEO Adam Aron.
How the 50% Off Wednesdays Program Works
AMC theatres’ new promotion applies to the base price of adult tickets. While premium formats like IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 3D will still carry an additional cost, the 50% discount will also apply to their base prices.
To access the deal, moviegoers must be members of the AMC Stubs program. The basic Stubs Insider membership is free to join and currently has over 36 million members. Premium tiers such as Stubs Premiere and Stubs A-List offer even more perks, such as free size upgrades and free reservations.

What Movies Are Eligible?
AMC has clarified that some holiday periods and high-demand movies may be excluded from the Wednesday promotion. However, the company envisions the program being “almost universally available” across all U.S. locations if it proves successful.
This initiative comes just before the release of major summer blockbusters like:
- Superman (Warner Bros.)
- The Fantastic 4: First Steps (Disney/Marvel Studios)
- The Bad Guys 2 (Universal/DreamWorks)
With a packed release schedule this summer, the timing could not be better for moviegoers to take advantage of midweek deals.
Why AMC Is Doing This Now
Theater chains like AMC have been fighting to win back audiences after years of disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hollywood strikes, and the growing dominance of streaming platforms. While the box office is rebounding, theaters still struggle with attendance for smaller-budget films.
CEO Adam Aron recently noted that AMC could not afford to make this pricing change until the box office demonstrated “sustained recovery.” According to Aron, the past two months saw a resurgence in attendance, thanks to the success of films like:
- A Minecraft Movie
- Sinners
- Thunderbolts*
This strong performance has given AMC the confidence to add a second discounted day without harming its financial outlook.
The Bigger Picture: Making Movies More Accessible
The announcement aligns with industry calls for better value for moviegoers. At CinemaCon 2025, Paramount’s distribution chief Chris Aronson encouraged theater chains to expand discount offerings, stating:
“We have to offer a premium moviegoing experience, not just charge premium prices.”
AMC is also investing over $2 billion in theater renovations nationwide, aiming to enhance the in-theater experience with better seating, sound, and visual upgrades.

Bottom Line: Great News for Movie Fans
If you’ve been skipping trips to the movies because of high ticket prices, AMC’s 50% Off Wednesdays could be your new go-to night out. It’s a budget-friendly way to enjoy everything from blockbuster premieres to indie gems — without breaking the bank.
As Aron put it, “There is a segment of the audience who looks first for a great value. We’re here to serve that audience.”
So, mark your calendars for Wednesday, July 9, 2025, and grab your popcorn — midweek movie nights just got a lot more affordable.
